The Black Shark Ocean Initiative
A Commitment to the Future of the Ocean
The ocean has always been a place of wonder — a world full of life, mystery, and beauty. But it is also a fragile world that needs protection.
Today, more than ever, our oceans face challenges that require awareness, respect, and action. Protecting marine ecosystems is not only about science or conservation programs — it begins with people understanding the ocean and developing a connection with it.
For Julio Baylón, founder of BlackShark, this responsibility is deeply personal.
As a father, ocean naturalist, and dive professional, he believes that sharing knowledge about the sea is one of the most powerful ways to inspire change. When people experience the ocean and learn about the incredible life within it, they begin to care about protecting it.
This vision is what inspired the creation of the Black Shark Ocean Initiative.
One of its goals is to introduce children to the ocean in a meaningful way. Through educational talks, learning materials, and real experiences by the sea, young people can discover the marine species that inhabit the waters of Baja California Sur and understand the importance of protecting them. By building this connection early in life, the next generation can grow with a stronger sense of responsibility toward nature.
Another important part of the initiative is inclusion.
The ocean should be a place where everyone has the opportunity to experience its beauty. Through adaptive diving programs, people with disabilities can explore the underwater world and experience something truly unique. Many who have participated describe the sensation of being underwater as a miracle — a feeling of weightlessness, freedom, and peace that is difficult to find anywhere else.
To support these experiences, the initiative seeks to raise funds that will allow the acquisition of specialized equipment required for adaptive diving, making the ocean more accessible to everyone.
At its heart, the BlackShark Ocean Initiative is about giving something back to the ocean — by educating younger generations, creating inclusive opportunities, and inspiring a deeper respect for the marine world.
Because the future of the ocean depends on the people who learn to love and protect it today.
